The deadline for comments on Barnsley’s draft Local Plan, which will determine development in the area for the next 20 years, has been extended by three weeks.

The plan calls for 1,400 new homes in Penistone, but limits development in surrounding villages.

Coun Roy Miller, cabinet spokesperson for Place, said: “We are aware that there have been concerns about the length of time people have to respond to the Local Plan consultation. To make sure people have the opportunity to tell us what they think, we are extending the consultation period.”

Comments must now be received by midnight on Sunday, 11 January.

The plan is available at http://consult.barnsley.gov.uk/portal, at libraries and at the Barnsley Civic Connects service centre in Eldon Street, Barnsley by telephoning 01226 772606 in advance.
