Darren is the Programme Director and had the original idea for Penistone FM
back in 2005, Darren has worked for PeakFM in Chesterfield and has been
involved in radio in some guise, Hospital Radio, Commercial Radio, RSL’s and
Community radio since he was 15!
A Civil Servant by profession, as well as all the time Darren dedicates to
Penistone FM and Barnsley Hospital Broadcasting, he also finds time to
volunteer as a Motorsport Flag Marshal for the likes of the British GP,
British Touring Car Championships and club level motorsport.
Q. What’s your favourite website?
Ten Tenths Motorsport forum is probably the site I visit most regularly, as
a massive motorsport fan and a Volunteer Motorsport marshal it’s a great
site to catch up with news about events both as a spectator and as a
Marshal.

Q. What was the first record you ever bought?
The first ever 7″ Single was by Sinita and it was GTO, not her biggest hit
(He’s got a big red G.T.O. everywhere we go the G.T.O. must go But I wonder
if he’ll ever know if he loves me or just his G.T.O.) and it got to No.15 in
1987, I bought it from EGS records in Barnsley, the first CD I bough was
Paul Simon – Graceland, I had just won a CD player on a radio competition
and needed to buy a CD to play on it, WH Smith’s CD collection in those days
was not great!
Q. Where is your favourite place in the world?
Home is my most favourite place, no matter where you spend your holidays and
I very much love Devon, Cornwall and Italy, but you always look forward to
coming home.

Q. Who is the nicest celebrity you have met and why?
I’ve not met many, I met Leslie Grantham (Dirty Den) and Joe Pasquali at a
shop I was Managing in Bradford an number of years ago, they came in to buy
some Christmas presents as they were in Panto at the Bradford Alhambra, Joe
does not squeak as much in real life.
Q. What is in your pockets RIGHT NOW!?
Tissue (unused), iPhone 4, 32p in loose change.
Q. What is the first thing you do when you wake up?
That very much depends on whether it’s a work day, if it is I normally thing
OMG why, why could I have not been born rich, most days though I lay there
for a while thinking of the special people in my life!
Q. What are you scared of?
I am officially the biggest wuss at Penistone FM by miles, spiders, bee’s
wasps, moths in fact anything remotely insect like….
