With Craig Revel Norwood (Strictly Come Dancing) as Director a cast featuring Michelle Gayle (Grange Hill, East Ender’s and six Top 20 hits) and the songs of Dusty Springfield Son of a Preacher Man at the Bradford Alhambra had the ingredients for a great night out. This isn’t The Dusty Springfield Story. Echoes of Dusty’s story are woven into the story of three strangers looking for answers on love at an old Sixties record shop run by The Preacher Man. The shop is now a coffee bar, the Preacher Man has died and it’s now run by his son – hence the title. The production had some unique touches with the bulk of the ensemble playing musical instruments live on stage. As a result while there were lead characters none of the ensemble was 12 Feet from Stardom. Anyone who has watched Dusty perform will recognise the homage to her in the choreography which incorporates many of her stage moves. All in all another great reason to travel to Bradford to experience it for yourself. Tickets from the box office on 01274 43200 and online at www.bradford-theatres.co.uk
