Geology of Warncliffe

Saturday 8th April

Meet at the R Don bridge on Station Road, Deepcar (map reference SK 291 980/post code S36 2SQ) at 10.00am

The walk will be led by Peter Kennet,former Head of Geology at High Storrs School

We shall examine a range of rock types in several places between the starting point and the top of the Crags, seeking evidence for how they might have formed, and trying to model the processes with sand and water. The influence of the geology on the landscape will also be discussed.

Local people with knowledge about the extraction of building stone used in Sheffield would be most welcome to attend.

Wear stout footwear and and warm clothes.

Under 18s are welcome but will need to be accompanied by an adult.

The guided walk will finish around 12.30pm
