Individuals and groups of volunteers in Penistone will be able to take part in new environmental improvement schemes from flower bed planting to vegetation clearance, wildlife habitat improvements to repairing/replacing bridges, stiles and gates.
The activities link into Penistone Area Council’s new Clean and Green contract, a new volunteer scheme which is being launched to support existing community groups.
This means people could combine their usual dog walking or family bike ride with surveying and minor works, give 30 minutes every so often to weed a flower planter, spend a day a month with the countryside rangers on footpath and bridleway improvements or create habitats for particular species or wildlife in general.
For those who prefer more creative work – they can help pull together a circular walk or information leaflet/information board, take photos and get involved in publicising a project.
Activities can be done to suit, and work days will be at weekends and summer evenings as well as during weekdays.
Sign-up at Penistone Town Hall on Thursday 29 October, between 10am and 2pm or just chat to officers about the varying options available and take away information to sign up later.
People who can’t make the launch event can register an interest or ask for more information by contacting the Public Rights of Way Team by emailing [email protected] or 01226 772 142
