Penistone History Group is a lively group who meet every other Wednesday afternoon in St John’s Community Centre for a talk or demonstration by invited speakers.

The next two meetings are on:

June 5th

 ‘The English Language’ An expert linguist, Malcolm Johnson, talks about our native tongue and, presumably, influences on dialect.

June 19th

 Soviet Army Women in WWII Talk by Chris Tapster, a military expert who still works with the armed forces. How the Russian women proved their valour and worth in the Second World War.

Admission £2 and includes Tea and a biscuit

Penistone History and Archive Group also look after the Penistone Archive, which is open on Market days in the Lower Hall of the Community Centre.

The group is always on the look-out for Penistone Almanacs, local historical photos or anything relating to local history, so it can be kept in Penistone, not stored and forgotten elsewhere.
