Penistone Town Council minutes Monday 16th May 2016

Councillor Paul Hand-Davies was installed as the new Mayor for 2016-2017. The outgoing Mayor, Coun. Andrew Millner was given a vote of thanks from Councillors Unsworth and Brenda Hinchliff.

The new Mayor’s charities will be Weston Park Hospital and Woodhead Mountain Rescue. He also paid tribute to all the hard work volunteers had done in keeping the Penistone Sports Centre and Stocksbridge baths  open, and to all the societies in the town.

Coun. Andrew Millner was elected as Deputy Mayor and the Mayor elect for 2017-2018 is to be Coun. Roger Hinchliff. Various committee members were also elected.

Coun. Cutts asked when white lines are to be put in place around Green Road. Coun. Unsworth replied that highways were assessing it.

There was some good news in that Joan Royd Lane has been taken off the planning list.

Residents with broken waste bins have been told they must pay £15 delivery charge for a new bin. Coun. Rusby stated that these kind of rules just encourage fly tipping. Residents can no longer collect them from Smithies.

The Blood Donor sessions are to move to the Grammar School. Councillors stated it would not be as convenient for donors, especially those without transport.

Organ concerts at the Paramount are not being run until September.

The council was waiting for finalisation of the Paramount lease, which will be for 13 years. The council were also waiting to hear what is to happen to the Town Hall building.

On-Point Coaching were awarded £250 for coaching at the cricket club. This is a non-profit organisation.

Surestart are now only occupying the building for 2 days at the Resource centre. Another playgroup and a pottery class have taken over the other 3 days.

Councillors urged that the toilets be finished asap.

Councillors were still working to try and make the squareabout safer.

A defibrillator has been installed inside Tesco and at the Grammar School.

The next Neighbourhood plan steering group meeting is on 24th May at the Community Centre. On 25th June there will be a roadshow at Thurlstone school and possibly Millhouse institute, And one is being planned for Hoylandswaine and Cubley Hall.

Next Council meeting is on Monday 20th June at 7pm in the Town Hall.

The Mayor’s church service will  be on Sunday 26th June at 10.45 at St John’s Church.
