Hogwatch – the survey of hedgehogs in the Penistone area – is running a competition for local children to design Valentine Day Cards and compose messages on the theme of hedgehogs and conservation for a second year

Local schools and children’s clubs will be contacted with details of how to enter the competition Judging will be for junior and infant cards and junior and infants messages.

Entrants will; be encouraged to send their card to someone they think might be able to take action to reverse the alarming decline in the hedgehog populations.

The judging of entries will take place on Saturday 6th February 2015 in St Andrew’s Church Hall, High Street, Penistone from 11.30am  to 1.30pm. when the results of the Hogwatch survey in 2015 and plans for 2016 will be presented.  All are welcome.

Valentine  Card Competition entries can be delivered to Penistone Library Friday  5th February.

The Hogwatch launch will help the organisers Barnsley Biodiversity Trust and Penistone Friends of the Earth to recruit hedgehog watchers who will  again be asked to records all sightings of hedgehogs (or not) throughout 2016.

The presentations on 6th February will be the first chance to look at the results of the survey last year  and meet people involved in hedgehog welfare and care in the area..
