Wharncliffe Heathland Birch Bash Volunteer Day

Volunteers are invited to join the task force on Sunday 12th March

Meet at the R Don bridge on Station Road, Deepcar (map reference SK 291 980/post code S36 2SQ) at 11.00am

Longer days mean that the work is needed to keep bash birch saplings on Wharncliffe Heathlands Nature Reserve.

Thousands of birch saplings that grow on the reserve would quickly shade theheather that helps create the habitats used by rare species such as the night jar.   Resident cows and sheep keep most of the birch under control but human help is still regularly needed to ensure that open areas of heathland are maintained.  Volunteers will be trained and tools provided.

Wear stout footwear and bring gardening gloves and warm clothes and some lunch.

Under 18s are welcome but will need to be accompanied by an adult.
