Becoming a volunteer at Penistone FM is a positive and rewarding experience – you can meet new friends, gain new skills and have fun too! We invest a lot of time and money into training our volunteers to the highest standard. Why not join us and get involved?
Volunteering at Penistone FM is not just about presenting a show on the radio. We expect our volunteers to commit to our aims and values and to multi-task across a whole range of roles, from organising and attending outside broadcasts to identifying local news stories and recording interviews; every task within the station requires the help of volunteers to keep things running smoothly.
We are looking for committed individuals from all age groups who are good communicators, are well-organised, have good IT skills, are willing to learn, have strong local knowledge and are happy to help with a variety of duties within the station when required.
Below is some information about some of the roles that we offer. If you are interested in finding out more, see our How to Apply section and hopefully we will hear from you soon!
Being a radio presenter on Penistone FM is about connecting with, and entertaining, our audience, as well as keeping them informed with the latest local news and information. Following training and successful evaluation, you will be responsible for putting a show together on a weekly basis.
We are a strong, interactive community radio service and we are looking for talented people who can contribute to our station sound and output, not “show and go” presenters or “disco DJs”.
Local news is an important part of Penistone FM’s output. Our team of volunteers are regularly out and about in the area interviewing individuals, community groups and organisations. We need people who have a nose for a story, are interested in the community and can help us to deliver local news to our listeners.
If you already have a journalism background or are looking for experience in order pursue a career in media, this is a fantastic opportunity for you.
