Young entrepreneurs from Penistone will be honoured at a special event at the Paramount on Monday July 7.

Penistone Business Group is hosting a prize-giving event to celebrate the local youngsters who took part in a Barnsley-wide business competition.

The teams in the I Know I Can (IKIC) Barnsley Big Challenge were given support and advice by business mentors, including members of Penistone Business Group.

Four hundred across Barnsley took part in the challenge, with the top 19 teams chosen to pitch to a Dragons Den panel of judges at the Town Hall.

Steve Lavender MBE, of Lavender International, will give the overall Penistone winner a trophy and £250 as a business investment. The runner-up will receive a trophy and £50 towards their business idea, sponsored by Ian Thompson MD of Procentus Consulting. Certificates will also be presented to all local students who took part in the competition.

The challenge was for the young people to start up their own business with help and a £25 investment from the volunteer mentors from the business community.

In Penistone, entries came from teams from Thurgoland Primary, Penistone Grammar School and Penistone Hub.
