Volunteers got together to help clean and weed the Trans-Pennine Trail at Silkstone Common.

Around 15 volunteers, including local residents who use the trail, got stuck into cleaning the stone monument and surface of the trail where it has been flooding recently.

With advice from the park rangers, they created drainage channels and cut back small trees to improve the drainage and light.

Martin Sugden from Voluntary Action Barnsley said “ It’s great to have volunteers helping to clean up the TPT, one of Barnsley’s best leisure facilities and it makes a real different to people who use it for walking, cycling, running or other family activities and makes a real difference to the area.”
